{"id":1198,"date":"2011-04-06T17:50:44","date_gmt":"2011-04-06T14:50:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/drsavta.com\/travelkosher\/?p=1198"},"modified":"2011-04-06T17:50:44","modified_gmt":"2011-04-06T14:50:44","slug":"malta-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drsavta.com\/travelkosher\/2011\/04\/malta-part-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Malta, part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Having landed in Malta after a sleepless night, our first night&#8217;s sleep at our hotel was particularly long and satisfying.<\/p>\n<p>By nine in the morning of our second day we were outside on the main street where we waited for the bus to pick us up for a tour of the island.  Our first stop was at a craft village where they manufactured a number of different craft items including filigree objects, mostly in silver, pottery, and very attractive <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mdinaglass.net\/gallery.htm\">decorative glass items<\/a>.  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/drsavta.com\/travelkosher\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/IMGP8377-640x480.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Filigree making\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-1199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/drsavta.com\/travelkosher\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/IMGP8377-640x480.jpg 640w, https:\/\/drsavta.com\/travelkosher\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/IMGP8377-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/drsavta.com\/travelkosher\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/IMGP8377.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><br \/>\nOur next stop was in the town of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.best-of-european-union.eu\/2011\/03\/28\/mosta-dome-the-third-largest-unsupported-dome-in-the-world-malta\/\">Mosta<\/a> which is proud of having the third largest unsupported dome in the world.  We visited the church there which is very impressive from the outside.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/drsavta.com\/travelkosher\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/IMGP8382-640x480.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Church in Mosta\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-1202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/drsavta.com\/travelkosher\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/IMGP8382-640x480.jpg 640w, https:\/\/drsavta.com\/travelkosher\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/IMGP8382-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/drsavta.com\/travelkosher\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/IMGP8382.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><br \/>\nand just as impressive inside.  The church was the site of a miracle.  During World War II, a Nazi plane passed over the church and dropped three bombs.  Two bounced off the outside of the dome.  The third came through the roof into the church when 300 people were present.  The bomb did not explode and no one was hurt.   For this reason, this church is a popular place for the people of Malta to pray.  After all, if the church was capable of this miracle, then why not others?<br \/>\nIn this picture, on the right hand side, just below the center, you can see where the dome was repaired.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/drsavta.com\/travelkosher\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/IMGP8390-640x480.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Inside of dome\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-1203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/drsavta.com\/travelkosher\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/IMGP8390-640x480.jpg 640w, https:\/\/drsavta.com\/travelkosher\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/IMGP8390-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/drsavta.com\/travelkosher\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/IMGP8390.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><br \/>\nOur next stop was <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mdina\">Mdina<\/a>, pronounced em-Dina.  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.my-malta.com\/malteseislands\/Mdina.html\">Mdina<\/a> is a walled city and it is well preserved. The water was very clear.  Even at a depth of 10 meters, one could see the bottom of the sea.<\/p>\n<p>After that, we had our last stop of the day.  It was a fishing town called Marsaxlokk (pronounced Marsa-shlock).
