{"id":1028,"date":"2011-01-21T01:18:53","date_gmt":"2011-01-20T23:18:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/drsavta.com\/wordpress\/?p=1028"},"modified":"2011-01-21T01:18:53","modified_gmt":"2011-01-20T23:18:53","slug":"wednesdays-with-ephraim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drsavta.com\/wordpress\/2011\/01\/21\/wednesdays-with-ephraim\/","title":{"rendered":"Wednesdays with Ephraim"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wednesday morning<\/p>\n<p>I get into the car.<br \/>\nMy husband drives me to the train station.<br \/>\nI put my backpack through the X-ray machine, take the escalator downstairs.<br \/>\nThere he is, smiling.  &#8220;Savta!&#8221; he says.<br \/>\nHis mom is there too, prepared for the trip.<br \/>\nI buy the tickets- one adult, one senior citizen (me???)<br \/>\nWe get onto the train.<br \/>\nHe sits on the seat and looks out the window.<br \/>\n&#8220;Tunnel!&#8221; he says.<br \/>\nWe leave the tunnel and outside is interesting &#8220;trees! cars! bus!&#8221;<br \/>\nBut after a while, it gets boring.<br \/>\nWe take out the notebook computer.<br \/>\nHe puts on the headphones and watches Dora.<br \/>\nHe smiles.<br \/>\nDora is over, he is ready to do something else.<br \/>\n&#8220;We&#8217;ll be there soon&#8221;<br \/>\nHis mom gives him something to drink, a granola bar.<br \/>\nI give him my magnetic necklace.<br \/>\nEach occupies him for a minute or two.<br \/>\n&#8220;We&#8217;ll be there soon.&#8221;<br \/>\nBinyamina<br \/>\nIt should be soon now.<br \/>\nTrees, cars, bus.<br \/>\nBut it goes on and on.<br \/>\nTwenty minutes with a two year old who is bored is not easy.<br \/>\nFinally we arrive.<br \/>\nThe taxi driver calls out our destination address.  He took us there two weeks ago.<br \/>\nIn the taxi the driver says, in English, &#8220;Wake up!&#8221;<br \/>\nTwo weeks ago our two year old almost fell asleep in the taxi.<br \/>\nThis week, he also looks like he will fall asleep.<br \/>\nHe closes his eyes.<br \/>\nWe say, &#8220;Wake up!&#8221;<br \/>\nHis  eyes stay closed, but a mischievous grin appears on his face.<br \/>\nThis happens a few more times during our 7 minute trip up the mountain.<br \/>\nWe arrive.<br \/>\nWe walk up the stairs.<br \/>\nThe waiting room has toys that by now are familiar.<br \/>\nHe wants coffee.<br \/>\nThey take him into the other room.<br \/>\nHe doesn&#8217;t like when they look at his eyes.<br \/>\nThey don&#8217;t touch him, but still he holds his hands across his eyes.<br \/>\nEach time they want to see his eyes, we distract him with something else.<br \/>\nThe same item doesn&#8217;t work twice.<br \/>\nFinally, they are finished looking at him and we can go.<br \/>\nHe still wants coffee.<br \/>\nHis mother gives him a little tea with a lot of milk.<br \/>\nHe is happy.<br \/>\nWe walk to the taxi stand.<br \/>\nSoon we are at the train station.<br \/>\nIn a few minutes, the train arrives.<br \/>\nThe train is full.<br \/>\nBut we find seats.<br \/>\nHe is not pleased.<br \/>\nHe screams and wails.<br \/>\nWe take out the notebook computer once again.<br \/>\nThis time he sits in his stroller and like any guy in a recliner, he settles back and watches another episode of Dora.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/drsavta.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Rhodes-2011.jpg\" alt=\"Relaxing on the train\" title=\"Relaxing on the train\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1029\" srcset=\"https:\/\/drsavta.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Rhodes-2011.jpg 640w, https:\/\/drsavta.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/Rhodes-2011-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><br \/>\nNear the end of the ride he becomes bored again.<br \/>\nWe try to find something to entertain him.<br \/>\nEven my Chinese fan loses its attraction in a short time.<br \/>\nFinally we approach the station.<br \/>\nNext week, we get to do it all over again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wednesday morning I get into the car.
